Rivierenland: from route network to experience

How can the Rivierenland region enhance its appeal through recreational route networks? This question was central to the exploratory study carried out by Centrϕide over the past few months on behalf of the Rivierenland Region. We took a close look at the existing network and looked beyond the lines on the map. The result: a digital map full of concrete opportunities to enhance the experience, distribute visitors more effectively across the region and strategically develop the route networks

The region as a starting point

Good insights don’t come from sitting at a desk. That’s why we went out into the region. We spoke with local authorities and other stakeholders, visited the area and organised an interactive workshop.

Through this combination of discussions, local knowledge and data, we gained a clear picture of what already exists and where the opportunities lie. That input formed the basis for the exploration. We examined the recreational route networks not only from the perspective of routes and infrastructure, but also in terms of usage, experience and organisation.

Recommendations for a stronger network

The exploratory study resulted in a coherent set of recommendations enabling the region to continue developing its recreational route networks in a targeted manner. The insights provide a framework for making choices and further developing the network in line with regional ambitions and usage. Together, these recommendations form a solid and forward-looking foundation for the new route programme in the coming years.

From study to next steps

This study provides Regio Rivierenland with a starting point. A basis for making decisions, collaborating and working step by step towards a route network that not only functions, but also inspires and invites.
